Hi everyone! My name is Julianne, and I am a licensed and Registered Doctor of Occupational Therapist and Registered Yoga Instructor with a certification in Adaptive Yoga and Trauma-Informed Yoga. I created this website during my time as an occupational therapy student during my research clinical rotation and it serves as a resource that I continue to build upon to explore integrative health approaches in occupational therapy. What is integrative health?

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) integrative health incorporates both complementary health approaches and conventional medicine in a coordinated way (AOTA, 2023). The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) expanded their definition of integrative health to include whole-person health, placing their focus on the biological, behavioral, social, and environmental domains for empowering individuals, families, communities, and populations to improve and restore their health.

Is integrative health within the scope of occupational therapy?

Yes! The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) approves the use of Complementary and Integrative Health (CHAIH) products and practices by competent occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) to prepare and enhance participation and engagement in occupation by persons, groups, and populations (AOTA, 2017).
